Application

Brush or spray apply ready-to-use SPECBLAST to the hardened concrete surface or mortar to be removed atapproximately 75 ft2 /gal. (1.8 m2 /gal.) If possible, immersion is the best application method. A light foaming action will occur. Allow to soak and agitate. After the concrete has softened, apply an additional application and allow this to remain on the surface for approximately 10 minutes. Remove concrete with a scraper. If additional concrete remains, subsequent applications may be necessary. The final application may be removed by power washing. Concrete build up of more than 1/4” (6 mm) may require multiple applications. If treated concrete resets prior to removal, apply additional SPECBLAST to re-soften. Leave the fresh application on for 10-15 minutes, then remove softened concrete as stated above.

The Duke Company | Spec-O-Lith

The Duke Company is proud to carry SpecChem products including Spec-O-Lith. Spec-O-Lith is a Liquid Fluosilicate Hardener Concentrate. SPEC-O-LITH is a water based solution of fluosilicates,
formulated to harden and dustproof concrete floors and improve the wearing characteristics of new or aged concrete and terrazzo.           (585) 335-5970 (Dansville NY)

Application

Surface must be clean, dry and free of all oil, grease, coating or residues that prevent absorption of chemical into surface. On new concrete surfaces, wait a minimum of 14 days (28 days, if possible) before applying. Product must be diluted with clean water prior to use. Use a plastic container or original container for this as product is corrosive. See coverage/dilution chart. Apply only when temperatures are above 40°F. Apply by spray (low pressure), squeegee or push broom. Two applications are generally necessary, each after the other has dried. AVOID puddles to prevent area whiteness. To help avoid
surface whiteness on terrazzo floors, or other extremely dense concrete floors, rinse with warm water before SPEC-O-LITH dries completely. If whiteness occurs, it is an indication that either the diluted solution is too strong or the floor has reached its maximum absorption of the chemical. Recheck dilution ratios or add additional water to solution until whiteness no longer occurs. Remove whiteness by immediately scrubbing with water and a stiff bristle broom.

Texture and absorption of surfaces dictates final coverage rates. Warm water washing speeds removal.
For Concrete: Allow each application to dry before applying the next application. Texture and absorption of surfaces dictates final coverage rates. Drying Time: 4 to 8 hours depending on temperature & humidity. Immediately clean tools with warm water.

          (585) 335-5970 (Dansville NY)

Application

General preparation: Since the Sealer ReNew evaporates quickly, surfaces to be treated should be addressed in small areas (5’ x 5’) and is best done in cooler temperatures with minimal direct sunlight. Remove any dirt or contaminants that will prevent the Sealer ReNew from coming in direct contact with the old sealer. Renewing old sealer: Brush or spray apply at approximately 250-300 sq-ft per gal and allow to penetrate the old sealer for 3-4 minutes. In areas of severe whitening (moisture blush) agitate the surface with a cloth rags or paint brush to release the moisture and dissolve the discoloration. Once the cured sealer has been treated, allow to re-harden. After treatment, if the existing sealer still shows a dull or
inconsistent gloss or finish, a thin application of new sealer may be required. A very thin application (500-600 sq-ft per gal) of SpecChem Deco Shine Plus or CrystalShine should be applied to restore the desired finish. Removing Old Sealer: Use SpecChem Citrus Cleaner or Sealer ReNew at full strength to completely remove old acrylic or methacrylate sealers.

Application

Preparation: Remove all dirt, oil, and loose or foreign material. Any metal in contact with grout must be free of rust, oil, grease, and other foreign matter which would limit bond. Concrete surface must be sound and roughened to insure proper bonding. Prior to placing grout, surface must be saturated surface dry (SSD), if possible for an hour. Remove all excess water before placement of grout. Bolts, base plates and equipment must be secure and rigid before placement of grout. All materials and surfaces in contact with the grout should be conditioned between 50°- 80°F for proper performance. Provide heating or cooling, as necessary, to compensate for temperature extremes and changes in cure time Forms: Allow for the continuous placement of grout. Provisions for venting to avoid air entrapment must be made. Placing from one side, provide a 45o angle in the forms to a height suitable to provide a head of grout during placement. On all sides, provide a minimum 1” (2.54 cm) horizontal clearance between the base plate and forms. Forms should be at least 1” (2.54 cm) higher than the bottom of the base plate. Mixing: Small quantities of grout may be hand mixed in a concrete mixing pan until lump free. For large quantities and continuous pours, mix using a mortar mixer with rubber tipped blades or appropriate grout pump for a minimum
of 5 minutes. Start with minimum water requirements.

Always add water to mixer first, then slowly add powder. Use only the amount of water required for the desired placement consistency. Mix in two steps: Add 2/3 of the water, add grout, after partial mixing add the remaining 1/3 of the water for desired consistency. Thoroughly mix total quantity for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. Do not mix more than can be placed before in 40 minutes. Placing: Place continuously and quickly. Start from one side to avoid air entrapment. Be sure grout fills spaces and remains in contact with plate. DO NOT VIBRATE.

A minimum of 1” (2.48 cm) vertical clearance should be maintained for base plate grouting applications. Thinner vertical clearances may require the use of another type of grout. Curing: Immediately cover with clean, wet rags and keep moist until final set. After final set, remove rags and apply an ASTM-C-309 curing compound, such as SpecChem Cure & Seal 25 or SpecChem Cure & Seal 25 WB. Special Conditions:

Deep application: Pre-washed and graded 3/8” (1 cm) pea gravel should be used in large applications (greater than 1’ x 1’) and thicker than 3” (7.62 cm) as follows: 3”-5” (7.62-12.7 cm): Add 25% of 3/8” (1 cm) pea gravel per 50 lb bag of grout. 5” (12.7 cm) and over: Add 50% of 3/8” (1 cm)
pea gravel per 50 lb bag of grout. Place in 6” lifts with proper reinforcement

Hot weather conditions: Accelerates setting time and causes premature drying of the grout. Keep the grout cool. Store unopened bags in the shade. Provide shade for area to be grouted. Use cool or chilled mixing water. Protect grout from direct sun exposure for up to 24 hours after grouting. For additional information, refer to ACI 305 (Recommended Practices for Hot Weather Concreting).

Cold weather conditions: Retards strength gain and set time. Warm the grout above 50°F. Raise the temperature of the area to be grouted with space heaters or steam. Warm the mixing water. Cover and insulate the grout to retain warmth. The minimum temperature (ambient, substrate, and grout) for grouting is 40o F (5oC) unless special provision are followed. For additional information, refer to
ACI 306 (Recommended Practices for Cold Weather Concreting)

Forms should be at least 1” (2.54 cm) higher than the bottom of the base plate. Mixing: Small quantities of grout may be hand mixed in a concrete mixing pan until lump free. For large quantities and continuous pours, mix using a mortar mixer with rubber tipped blades or appropriate grout pump for a minimum of 5 minutes. Start with minimum water requirements. Always add water to mixer first, then slowly add powder. Use only the amount of water required for the desired placement consistency. Mix in two steps: Add 2/3 of the
water, add grout, after partial mixing add the remaining 1/3 of the water for desired consistency. Thoroughly mix total quantity for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. Do not mix more than can be placed in 30 minutes. Test data and recommended water amounts are based on laboratory conditions. Actual field results may vary based on jobsite conditions. Placing: Place continuously and quickly. Start from one side to avoid air trapment. Be sure grout fills spaces and remains in contact with plate. DO NOT VIBRATE. A
minimum of 1” (2.48 cm) vertical clearance should be maintained for base plate grouting applications. Thinner vertical clearances may require the use of another type of grout. Curing: Immediately cover with clean, wet rags (do not use burlap) and keep moist until final set. After final set, remove rags and apply an ASTM-C-309 curing compound, such as SpecChem Cure & Seal 25.

Benefits:

  • Waterproofs interior, exterior, above & below grade masonry & concrete surfaces.
  • Apply to concrete block, brick, stone, precast concrete or formed concrete.
  • Apply to both positive & negative side (when hydrostatic pressure is low & aesthetics are not important.

Application

Surface Preparation: The surface must be structurally sound, clean, and free of dirt, release agents, efflorescence, curing compounds, laitance, and other contaminates. Remove form marks and other protrusions to prevent “show through”. Form a cove at the footer-wall intersection point and fill all broken corners of block and breaks in the surface. Repair all surface defects including cracks and voids with SC FOUNDATION COATING mixed to a mortar consistency. Cut back wires a minimum of 3/4” and repair with Spec Patch or Spec Plug.
Dampen the surface with clean water immediately before SC FOUNDATION COATING application.

Mixing: SC FOUNDATION COATING must be mechanically mixed using a slow speed motor and mixing blade to thoroughly disperse the ingredients. Mix for approximately three minutes. Do not over-mix the material.  Pour approximately one half of the required two gallons
into an empty, clean container and begin slow speed mixing. Slowly add SC FOUNDATION COATING and mixing admixture* (water or Acrylic Bonder) as needed to bring the mixture to a heavy, completely blended pancake batter consistency. Stop mixing and allow the mixture to ‘fatten” for ten minutes. Re-mix and, if necessary, add more mixing admixture to reduce batter consistency. *Note: To improve bonding & mechanical properties on concrete, masonry and for all trowel applications, prepare an acrylic admixture using 1 part Acrylic bonder and 3 parts potable water. For example two gallons of mixing admixture consists of two quarts of Acrylic Bonder blended
with six quarts of water. When using as a pointing mortar, the use of Acrylic Bonder admixture is recommended.

Application: Pre-dampen the substrate with clean, potable water before any application. All applications should carry down to and over the footer, forming a cove at the walls-footer intersection. Apply two uniform applications of SC Foundation Coating, each application at approximately 1- 2 lbs/yd2, allowing 24 hours between applications. Make sure both applications carry down to and over the footer, forming a 1-1/2” (38cm) cove at the junction of walls and footers  Hand Brush: Apply using a six inch cement masons brush. Load bristles and lay on a heavy coat using long, smooth horizontal strokes. Apply sufficient material to fill voids. Final strokes should all be
in one direction to produce an even texture and finish. Allow first coat to dry for 12 to 24 hours before applying a finish coat.

Push Broom: Use a five gallon pail or wide mount tub to hold product. Dip a ten inch, Tampico bristle push broom into product mix just enough to load the bristles. Apply a heavy coat using long, even horizontal strokes. Apply sufficient material to fill all voids. Lift the brush at the end of each stroke. Final strokes should all be in one direction to produce and even texture & finish. Do not over-brush. Allow the first
coat to dry for 12 to 24 hours before applying a finish coat. Spray: Use heavy duty spray equipment capable of spraying cement-based products or mastics. Trowel: The use of trowel applications is required in some severe water pressure situations.

Application

COVERAGE:
Curing, Sealing, Hardening and Dustproofing: Hard Troweled Finish: 500-600 sq ft / gal
Broom or Float Finish: 300-400 sq ft / gal
Vertical Surface: 400-500 sq ft / gal

Extend application rate to 1000-1200 sq-ft per gal on extremely hard trowelled, burnished concrete floors (ie Wal Mart, Kohl’s etc)
The above rates are approximate. Exact coverage depends upon the porosity of the concrete as well as the job requirements.

Place concrete, finish, cut control joints and thoroughly remove all saw cutting residue before cure application.

Spray apply in a fine mist and immediately spread with a microfiber applicator pad. Over-application and puddling may leave a clear-milky membrane which is removed with a stiff broom, screen or flushing the surface with water and scrubbing. Spraying and spreading with
applicator pad provides superior results. Application temperatures 40oF to 90oF.
